“Out of the Depths, I Cry” (2012)

available from the composer

duration ca. 12:00

Instrumentation:

tuba, 13 gongs/tam-tams (1 player)

The supplicant’s Psalm 130 is a cry from the heart of deepest despair.

Out of the depths, I cry to you, Lord.

Hear my voice: let your ears be attentive to my supplications.

If you, Lord, should mark iniquities, who shall stand?

But there is forgiveness with thee, that you may be loved.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word do I hope.

My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

Let Israel hope in the Lord: for with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

"Out of the Depths, I Cry" was premiered May 3, 2012, by Long Kwan, tuba and Karina Yau, percussion, at Hong Kong Baptist University's Academic Community Hall.
